Located in the historical center of west Georgia and third biggest city in nowadays, the museum houses architectural and archaeological monuments from Christian sites near Kutaisi. Important artifacts are Christian orthodox icons, miniature religious books and a great collection of weapons of the past centuries. Furthermore, the museum features monuments of Georgian architecture form the important historical sites such as Bagrati Cathedral (XI c.), Gelati Monastery (XII c), Motsameta Monastery, remains of Geguti Royal Residence (XII c) and the XVI-century royal palace of the Kings of Imereti - “Okros Chardakhi (“Golden Canopy)”. The part of the museum is recently under constrauciton.
