Batumi’s Snowy Surprise: A Winter Fairy Tale

I never thought I’d see Batumi like this. I had always known it as a city of summer—warm breezes off the Black Sea, golden sunsets on the boulevard, and endless laughter echoing from seaside cafés. But on February 23, 2025, Batumi surprised me in the most magical way possible.

That morning, I woke to silence, the kind that only fresh snow can bring. I pulled back the curtains of my hotel room, expecting the familiar sight of palm trees and blue waves. Instead, I gasped. Batumi was covered in white. Snowflakes drifted gently through the air, blanketing the rooftops, the streets, and even the pebbled shoreline in a soft, dreamlike glow.

I couldn’t resist. I bundled up and stepped outside, where the air smelled crisp and pure. The usually bustling Europe Square was hushed under a sparkling layer of snow. The golden statue of Medea stood regal, her pedestal frosted like a cake. Children played, building tiny snowmen where café tables would usually sit in the summer.

I wandered to Batumi Boulevard, where the palm trees—yes, palm trees—stood dressed in snow, a surreal sight I never imagined I’d see. The Ferris wheel turned slowly, its colors muted under the soft white veil. Locals smiled at one another, sharing in the rare beauty of their transformed city.

The atmosphere here and the joy of the snow reminds me of my trip to Germany Bavaria Arberland. Here too, the people were happily enjoying themselves and the Arberland was organizing cozy evenings in the streets, just like today in Batumi.
