Adjara State History Museum
Khariton Akhvlediani Adjara State Museum of Batumi was established in 1908, with the initiative of group of teachers and public figures as a school museum. On March 19th, 1908, Batumi city council with the participation of 28 voters, unanimously approved decision of its administration and budget commission to establish children’s school museum at the premises of Pushkin City School.
Exhibition halls display pieces of art, paintings, sculptures, jewelry and antiquities. Museums garden is also functional, where one can find whale’s skeleton, first tractor in Adjara, or ornament fragments of material cultural monuments with old inscribing.
History department of the Museum displays various artifacts from Stone to Bronze and Iron ages.
Department of Geology displays samples of sea and continental sediments, exhibits from 15 million year “Goderdzi stoned forest”; Adjara fossils and different types of soil. Colchic flora is showcased separately in the museum, with its endemic and relict vegetation, and the samples from Batumi Botanical Garden.
