Aspindza Town
Aspindza is a main town in Aspindza municipality, Samtskhe-Javakheti region, former Meskheti area.
Located on the right bank of the Mtkvari River, at an elevation of 1090 meters above sea level, Aspindza was mentioned in the historical documents for the first time in the 9th century. It received a status of the town in 1961. The population of the town is 2793 people (2014).

Tsunda Lake is nearby, situated at an elevation of 1539 meters above sea level, it covers 0,034 square kilometers. The average depth of the lake is 6,6 meters.
The most famous cultural site of the region is Vardzia – a cave monastery which was carved in the rock. The foundation dates back to the 12th century. There are 15 churches in the complex. Vardzia-Khertvisi was submitted for the World Tentative List.
Tmogvi Fortress was built in the 10th century, on the top of the mountain. It controlled the trade route of the region.
One of the oldest fortresses in Georgia, Khertvisi Fortress was constructed in the 2th century BC, and the church was built at the end of the 10th century.
Another cave monastery – Vanis Kvabebi was founded in the 8th century.
Shoreti Monastery dates back to the 6th-7th and 15th centuries. It includes the main church, scriptorium, a bell tower, a small chapel.
The rebellion against Mongols was planned in Kokhtastavi Fortress in the 13th century.
Oshori Church (14th century), Kizilderesi Church (8th-9th century), Chikhorisi Church (10th century), Tsunda basilica (12th-13th century), Beriskhevi Monastery complex (13th century), Karzameti church (13th century), Alandzia Church (8th-9th century), Gaveti Church (13th-14th century), Giorgitsminda Chuch (8th-9th century), Oloda Church (9th century) are all located in Aspindza Municipality.
The main field of agriculture is fruit-growing, animal husbandry. S11 Highway goes through Aspindza. There are two resorts in Aspidza Municipality: Aspindza and Nakalakevi.
