Ioseb Grishashvili Tbilisi History Museum
Near Sioni Cathedral in Old Tbilisi, two museums reside within the old caravanserai: the Ioseb Grishashvili History Museum and the recently unveiled Tbilisi Wine Museum.
The setting is truly remarkable: wine museum is situated underground, nestled within concealed chambers and passages beneath the historic caravanserai.
The Ioseb Grishashvili History Museum established in 1910 as a City Museum, it now bears the name of renowned Georgian poet Ioseb Grishashvili. Housing an extensive collection of around 50,000 items, this museum encapsulates the history, daily life, and culture of the capital city. Among the showcased artifacts are distinctive objects, weaponry, diverse ceramics, musical instruments, coins, textiles, and household items dating back to the Bronze Age.
Moreover, the Grishashvili Museum proudly exhibits a remarkable selection of paintings by esteemed Georgian artists like Lado Gudiashvili, Mose Toidze, and Elene Akhvlediani.
