Tbilisi Open Air Museum of Ethnography

The museum is situated on a middle hill of Trialety range between the Turtle lake and Vake Park in a recreational area. It is the only open-air museum in Tbilisi portraying everyday lifestyle of Georgians, mostly from the rural areas of Georgia.

The museum features 70 unique houses and thrift buildings characteristic from 14 ethnographic zones of Georgia, along with 8000 household devices and samples of craft exposed in the museum area.

The museum was founded in 1966 by the famous Georgian ethnographer Giorgi Chitaia. During the summer months, it hosts various festivals and traditional craft demonstrations in the open air.

 

You can reach the area by car or walking from Vake Park or use a cable car from Chavchavadze Avenue to the Turtle lake and walk downhill to the Ethnographic museum.
