Ilia's Marani

Founded in the 10th to 12th centuries, this thousand-year-old wine cellar in the village of Chukineti, Southwest Georgia, has stood the test of time remarkably well. Situated in front of an ancient stone cellar designed in a traditional style, the wine tasting corner offers visitors a glimpse into centuries-old winemaking traditions.

Named after Ilia Malakmadze, a renowned winemaker of the local valley, the cellar is now overseen by his son, Amiran, who continues the family legacy and warmly welcomes guests. Amiran shares fascinating stories about ancient winemaking techniques, the historical significance of wine, and the enduring local traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Visitors are invited to indulge in tasting of wine and chacha using classical and traditional stemware. They can also explore the ancient cellar, admire the breathtaking views from the surrounding vineyards, and, with prior arrangement, savor delicious Adjarian cuisine prepared by the hospitable hostess of the house.
