Batumi Piazza
An Italian-style square, the Batumi Piazza is located in the Seaside zone of the capital city of Adjara, Batumi. There are open air cafes, souvenir shops and hotels around the square. The biggest figurative marble mosaic (106 sq m) in Europe is situated in the middle of Square. The mosaic was designed by a Georgian-Swiss designer Natali (Natalia) de Pita Amirejibi in 2010. Created by millions of small marble pieces brought from 15 different countries. The idea of the mosaic is to show the harmony between sea elements and a continual urban expanse. The mosaic has eight circles and each of them is represented with ornamental and figurative elements. On the main circle of the mosaic the visitor can see five female figures, the symbols of marine deities. The figures wear red, purple, pink, green, light blue clothes. A prototype for the central figure of the composition, a small mermaid, is considered as a five-year-old Romina, the designer’s daughter.
