Ruins of medieval Zakagori Fortress and village is located in the Truso Valley, Stepantsminda town, Kazbegi Municipality, Khevi mountain region. Situated on the left bank of the river Tergi at an elevation of 2243 meters above sea level, the area is perfect place for nature lovers and trekking.
Fort used to be play a crucial role in defense of the gorge. The frontier goes to the former kingdom of Alania, today Republic of North Ossetia, Russian Federation.
Visitors can sightsee the ruins of several towers, as well as the ruins of old two-storey stone houses. Site is located in 35 kilometers from the administrative center Stepantsminda . It can be accessed by a 4x4 transportation, passing through Truso Valley.
