Beshumi
Beshumi, is a picturesque summer village. Its wooden cottages scattered throughout the alpine landscape create an enchanting atmosphere. Nestled in the Arsiani mountainous of Khulo municipality, it is 120 km away from the Black Sea coastline of Georgia at an elevation of 2000 meters The area is rich with coniferous forests and mineral springs.
Beshumi is not a permanently settled place in Adjara, season opens only from mid-June until the beginning of September. The major event here is “Shuamtoba,” a traditional local holiday held in the first weekend of August. Horse race is held on each “Shuamtoba”. From the end of September resort becomes empty and soon the houses are covered with snow. There aren’t any luxurious hotels in Beshumi. Most of the cottages are made of wood.
The main highlight in Beshumi is Green Lake. The name is related to the natural colour of the lake. It is located 6 km away from Beshumi. There are several Adjarian settlements between the Goderdzi Pass and the Green Lake. Visitors can taste traditional local food while passing through the villages. The Green Lake is a nice place for a picnic or camping.
Another place worth visiting nearby is Khikhani Fortress, situated 16 km away from Beshumi. The fortress is located in the Khikhadziri Gorge. It was built in the 12th-13th centuries.
