The Bank of Georgia headquarters
The Bank of Georgia Headquarters Building, situated in Tbilisi, is a landmark structure with a rich history. Originally completed in 1975, it initially served as the Ministry of Highway Construction of the Georgian SSR before becoming the main office of the Bank of Georgia in 2007. Architects George Chakhava and Zurab Jalaghania envisioned this unique 18-story building, characterized by its appearance of randomly piled bricks.
The unconventional design, rooted in the space city method concept, aims to minimize ground occupancy. The structure features an extensive grid of interlocking concrete forms, reflecting the influence of Russian constructivist ideas from the early 20th century and incorporating elements of Brutalism. The building underwent interior renovations and the addition of a new main entrance from 2010 to 2011. The result is a striking architectural piece that stands out in Tbilisi's cityscape.
