Morning, at 9:00 guide will come to your place of overnight in Tbilisi and pick-up for two day tour to South Georgia.
The first stop on our journey today is Gori – a small town of the Kartli region, located 78 km from Tbilisi on the western highway. We are visiting three major attractions: Gori Fortress, The house-museum of the Soviet dictator J. Stalin and the ancient cave town of Uplistsikhe dating back to 1st millennium BC, 15 km away from the town Gori.

Uplistsikhe has rock-hewn streets and squares, halls, secret tunnels, remains of ancient churches and a museum building, where valuable items excavated in Uplistsikhe are presented. The town is argued to be one of the oldest settlements in the region.
After head towards Borjomi – a resort-town famous for its mineral sparkling waters. Here we can taste Borjomi mineral sparkling water and walk through the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park – one of the largest protected areas in Europe, which covers 5300 sq. km.

Evening departure for Akhaltsikhe town.
Overnight in Akhaltsikhe.
After breakfast, check out and head to Akhaltsikhe castle.
First, visit Rabati district. Rabati is historical part of Akhaltsikhe town around the medieval fort that integrates a castle, fortification, museum, mosque, synagogue, church, and other different interesting attractions. Akhaltsikhe museum presents the cultural heritage of Javakheti region and various artifacts collected from this historical province: old manuscripts, archaeological exhibits, ethnographic material, collection of old carpets, rugs, and etc. Rabati also includes noblemen Jakeli family castle, 18th c.

After sightseeing Rabati, drive to the south part of the country along the Mtkvari river gorge, where you can enjoy hilly landscapes and several old fortresses. Make a short stop by the Khertvisi Fortress.
Continue to Vardzia – a cave monastic complex dating back to the 12th-13th cc. Vardzia is carved in the slopes of the Erusheti Mountains, stretched along the 500 meters on a cliff and consists of 19 different tiers. Georgian Queen Tamar is credited for establishing this monastery during her reign in the 12th c. Nowadays monks still live in caves.
In summer season, drive back to Tbilisi passing through the Javakheti Plateau, Phoka Monastery and Tsalka lake.
In winter, just drive back the same way as we came through the Borjomi-Akhaltsikhe highway.
