The best selection of local winemakers is the highlight of a one-day private wine tour from Kutaisi.
Imereti is one of the significant western wine regions of Georgia. The program brings together three different tasting locations:. First drive to Mate’s wine cellar in Banoja village. Visit a traditional western-type family wine cellar, and taste three kinds of homemade wine.
Then continue to the medium-sized winery Vartsikhe Marani and the last a small family winery producing unique bio-wine in the Baia's Wine cellar in the village of Obcha near the town of Baghdati. Taste the Imereti grapes and get acquainted with the winemaking traditions of Churi.

Starting from Mate’s Marani a family-owned winery and ethno-location in Imereti region. Perfectly located on the crossroads of Kutaisi and Tskaltubo, this place is very easily reachable from both cities (5mins drive from Kutaisi, 10mins drive from Tskaltubo). Their main ambition was to produce natural wines with the traditional Georgian methods. They are mainly focused on wine, but also produce spirits and honey. Winery obtain to produce only 4000-5000 bottles of wine per year. The small production allows tem to attend to the quality of products in every single detail.
Next wine spot is in Vartsikhe Marani (wine cellar) with the same name as the village has. The cellar owns vineyards both in the west and in the east parts of Georgia. Wines here are made in ‘‘Churi’’ (Qvevri is called ‘‘Churi’’ in Imereti region) by traditional technologies, which give the wine reach phenolic compounds. Walk along the vineyards, discover and get information about the endemic grape varieties of Tsiskha, Tsolikauri, Krakhuna, Otskhanuri Sapere, Aleksandrouli, etc, end the tour in Varsikhe wine cellar with wine tasting of the unique wines.
Continue the trip to another village of Baghdati town - Obcha, visit a small family winery – Baia`s Wine Cellar. George and his young sisters of Abuladze family Baia and Gvantsa trying to bring new life to the region's viticulture. They are the perfect example of young motivated women continuing family traditions. Baia is responsible for white grape varieties producing and marketing, while Gvantsa monitors red grape ones. Traditional Imeretian lunch with wine will be served here.
Drive back to Kutaisi. Drop off to the hotel.
*Optional: evening visit the wine bar – ‘‘Sapere’’ which is named after the widespread red grape varieties (Otskhanuri Sapere) in West Georgia, mostly in the Imereti viticulture region. The bar stimulates and collects wines from local small wineries, as they claim that the unique and exclusive wine can be found in small cellars as a result of winemaker`s hard work. Taste 4 different wines with Imeretian snacks and listen to a story of each bottle.
