Located on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, between the two rivers Aragvi and Mtkvari, ancient town Mtskheta used to be the capital of the Eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia from the 4th c BC through the 5th c AD, until the King Vakhtang IV moved his court to Tbilisi. Now the Historical Monuments of Mtskheta are listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
Today we are going to visit town Mtskheta, early medieval Jvari Monastery, the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Antioch of Mtskheta, Ananuri Fortress, Zhinvali Reservoir, Gudauri ski-resort (2196 m above the sea level), and observation platform standing at the edge of the cliff of Great Caucasus mountains.

9:00 guide will pick you up from the hotel.
Head to the north, towards the Greater Caucasus mountains through the Georgian Military Road. On the way, turn towards the Jvari Monastery. The iconic panoramic view of the two rivers' confluence - Mtkvari and Aragvi lies at your feet. This is one of the must-see places in Georgia.
Next stop at the medieval fortress Ananuri, located on the river bank of Zhinvali Reservoir. Swimming is available in summer. Mountain river Aragvi, a mountain river is clean, cold and beautiful blue.
The Ananuri fort was the residence of local feudal Aragvi Eristavi. The walls of Ananuri dome Church of the Assumption are decorated with unique stone carving, ornaments and frescoes from 16-17th c.c.
There are two observation platforms on the way to Gudauri – the first one is before reaching ski-resort, and another – few kilometers after Gudauri. Both places represent an ideal place for paragliding. If the weather is suitable, don’t skip a moment and try once!
After visiting colorful upper observation platform with large mural, named as Monument of Friendship, drive back to Tbilisi.
In the evening make a stop in Mtskheta town, take walk to the gorgeous Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of 11th century and a tiny nunnery Antioch of Mtskheta 4th -5th cc. Walk the narrow streets of the town, enjoying views and medieval spirit. Here you can also buy traditional sweets – Churchkhelas, made from grape juice, nuts and some Georgian spices.
In the evening we drive back to Tbilisi.
