Itinerary

Day to day

Driving Distance: 180 km

Walking Distance: 5 km, height difference - 300 m

Duration: 3-4 h, difficulty: easy

Pick up from the hotel.

Pick some lunch box and head from Kutaisi to Gvirishi through the villages across Rioni gorge. Gvirishi waterfall is located on a rocky mountain massif, 4 kilometers away from the village Gvirishi. Waterfall height is 25 meters, you can observe it from the newly built glass bridge. Since Lechkhumi region is well known for the cultivation of wheat, the name of this village is related to the endemic wheat species.

Continue your way to the village Lailashi. The main attraction of Lailash is the 19th-century synagogue, which united people of different nationalities: Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Georgians. This is where the multicultural background of the locals got derived from. One of the most popular attractions in Lailash is a small pool that overlooks Lajanuri Dam and creates a unique landscape for photography lovers. It should be noted that the pool water is very cold and is worth visiting especially in hot weather.

Suggested lunchtime outdoor, nearby pool.

After lunch drive 20 km to the verge of Lechkhumi and Racha regions, Sairme Pillars. Here we start 5 km DBL way uphill/downhill hiking to the pillars. If we are lucky, we may find some eatable mushrooms on our walking path.

Our next stop is the administrative center of Lechkhumi region, Tsageri with a small park and a market, where visitors can buy locally produced Lechkhumi salt that is mixed with several spices. It also has a secret ingredient added, which will give your dishes an amazing flavor.

We end this day in the village of Kulbaki on Green Lake, where the local family has a trout farm. The word Lechkhumi means fishing place. You may catch fish on spot and enjoy your own delicious trout for dinner as well as mushrooms picked in Sairme forest.

Dinner and overnight at the family hotel in the Kulbak complex.

Driving Distance: 110 km

Walking Distance: 6 km, height difference - 300 m

Duration: 3 h, difficulty: medium

Breakfast at Kulbak Hotel. Morning hiking excursion around Kulbak Lake Complex which includes a small forest-park. Grab meal packages and drive to the mystical Khvamli rock, the duration of the road is approximately 1 hour.

Khvamli rock is located at an altitude of 2002 meters above sea level, its rocky massif is 150-300 meters high and 10 kilometers wide. The road ends at our first sight, 300 meters from St. George's church. The walking path takes about 3 hours and the ascents are quite steep, but the breathtaking panoramic views and the fresh air typical of the alpine zone will help you cover the distance in a pleasant mood.

St. George's Cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is a hall church architecture. Liturgies are held only on holidays. Afterward, we continue our way to our main destination, the peak of Mayak, which is considered to be the highest point of the Khvamli rock massif "2002 m". If the weather is good, we may even catch a glimpse of the Black Sea. Light lunch break at 14:00.

It takes 1 hour from Khvamli rock to Okureshi village. There are several small villages splattered at the foot of the Khvamli rock:  Okureshi, Tvishi, Usakhelo, they are rich in unique minerals. The rare grapes-Usakhelouri from which the wine of the same name is made, grow on this land.

We will visit the family that produces this unique type of wine, degustation 2 types of wine: Tsolikauri and Usakhelouri, and taste delicious Lechkhumian dishes prepared by the hostess. In this warm family environment, we recall the beautiful paths we walked in the past days. On this warm note continue to Kutaisi. Upon your wish, you can visit Prometheus karst cave on the way.
